Welcome!

Welcome to Studio Notes. This is a place where I’ll occasionally share new work, give updates on what’s happening in the studio and beyond, and offer a glimpse into how the work takes shape. I'm sending this to a small, curated group of folks who I count as my friends and collectors.

This week I’m finishing a few sculptures for an upcoming show, including one called True Grit II. It follows an earlier piece, True Grit, and not surprisingly, it carries a similar feel.

The wood is spalted oak, heavily weathered. Like much of the material I use, I found it outside at one of the small sawmills I visit from time to time. I cut it into a circle, removed a notch, and worked deeper into that opening with a series of gouges.

And now it's time to get back to the workbench.
